(23/12/06) *** S.R.C. awarded grant *** Thanks to the efforts of Tony Moule the Rowing Club, together with Sudbury Upper School, has been awarded over £9,000 through the Awards For All scheme. This will enable us to increase and renew our fleet of shiny rowing machines and expand our support for Junior and Senior rowing in the local community.

(18/10/04) The AGM is on Thursday, 21st October 2004 at 19:45 in the club house. All members welcome.
(13/09/04) There will be a meeting of the men's squad at the club on Thursday 16th at 19:00 to discuss next season.
(12/09/04) Cambridge Autumn Regatta saw a number of wins for the club, including a very well deserved win for of the men's novice who prevailed in style over 7 other crews.
(07/08/04) Another successful Sudbury Annual Regatta, despite the sad passing away of Ken Mills.
(05/07/04) It is now a month until our own regatta, and all members are encouraged and urged to make themselves available and respond to requests for help to make it a success.
(04/07/04) Members in the news at Henley Royal Regatta:-
- (1) Sam Hogsbjerg rowed at 6 in the King's College 'A' VIII which qualified in the Temple Challenge Cup. Their first race on Wednesday was against the US Naval Academy which had won the trip to Henley by winning the IRA's (sort of American equivalent of BUSA) in lwt VIII's. The US crew equalled the 2^nd fastest time of the day to win by 3¾ lengths.
- (2) Peter Gostling was stroke of Leander Club's Ladies' Challenge Plate VIII. Their first race was on Friday against Christiania & Norske Roklub of Norway, which they won by 2 lengths to set up a semi-final against Boston University, who were the seeded crew in that half of the draw. In a close contest in which the lead changed hands a number of times, and the announcer had to resort to ever smaller fractions of boat-lengths to relay the margin, Leander held on to win by ¾L. That set up a final with Harvard, the US varsity heavyweight champions, who as the other seeded crew had a slighly more comfortable win over Grasshopper of Switzerland. In the final Leander had a 2 length lead at Fawley, half-way, but Harvard fought back, but to no avail as Leander recorded a popular home win by ¾L.
  Well done to Peter - that's his 3^rd Henley medal!!!
(27/06/04) Many thanks to Charles (and co) for erecting the new garden shed behind the clubhouse. The point of the shed is to clear clutter from the boathouse, to make that a safer less accident- prone place, and NOT so that we can just store more stuff!
(26/06/04) Tony and Paul won S2 2- at Richmond regatta, and report that it is a regatta the club should consider en masse in the future.
(23/05/04) New boats: We have ordered a second virus boat to support our beginner’s programme, plus some new blades to go with it. It should be delivered before the end of June. We have also placed an order for a new bank tub. The tub will be fixed to the landing stage enabling the rower to practice rowing in a stable vessel that doesn’t move. This investment will be very useful in speeding up the learning process for beginners, but also useful to refine/break the bad habits, of the more experienced rowers. We hope to have this in June too.
Iris course: With the recent ROSE course completed, the next course will be intermediate Rowing in Sudbury (IRIS) This is scheduled to run for 6 consecutive Sundays beginning the 5^th September. Contact the captain if you want to go on the list.
(5/10/03) Sudbury RC welcomes the new season. Stand by whilst we get organised but expect to be involved in regular outings and training! If you want to be involved in building on last year's successful season, or want to have a successful season, now is the time to turn up and be counted...
(28/07/03) The club had a successful weekend at St. Neots regatta over the weekend. The women's 8+ confirmed their competitive season by winning the S3 event, and providing a good race in their S2 heat, losing to a mean-looking AK crew. Four of the Sudbury crew won their novice pot in this event (Liz, Dawn, Mel and Julie), which had 4 entries, in a convincing 1¾ length win over the Lea. The men's senior 4 proved they can do it coxed as well as coxless by winning the S2 4+ event, also from the Lea, by 3ft in a close final in the 9 boat event, after winning their heats with some to spare. The other Sudbury entry was Robert Frost in a large Novice sculls field, who narrowly lost in a heat.
On the sunday the mixed four won the S2 4+ event, and Tony narrowly lost the final of Vet B 1x on very little sculling this season. Robert persevered through to the final of the Novice 1x event from a field of 12 but lost by half a length. A win musty be on the cards soon...

(13/12/02) Further confirming the club's status as a strong junior club in the region, Antony Moule was put forward for the ARA's Coaches of 2002 award. For those who can't be bothered to click on the link, the citation reads
'The standard of nominations was so exceptional that a further five were highly commended for their contribution to the sport'
I'm sure we all recognise Tony's efforts both with the school and with Peter, Sam and Dawn, so a belated but very fitting mention. Well done! A full round up of Tony's many achiements.

(9/11/02) Regular training on the River took on a slightly different flavour this weekend, with the first of the season's time trials being staged on Saturday. These are run to foster the competitive element within the club, to give a positive start to winter training, and to offer video/coaching opportunities under race conditions. Spread over 5 divisions, a total of 31 Sudbury members took part in the day, in mix & match combinations of 21crews, with the club also paying host and offering the same coaching facilities to a further 4 crews from Beccles Rowing Club.

(5/7/02) Yesterday, Sudbury Rowing Club competed at Henley Royal Regatta, represented by Aidan Dunn and Sam Hogsbjerg, the first time the Club has provided a complete crew AND THEY WON!!!!! Beating opposition from Yale University. HRR Today they face Messrs Pinsent and Cracknell @ 3.30. I quote BBC Ceefax Page 388 "Pinsent and Cracknell won their first race easily........they know they now face much sterner opposition". Bring 'em on.
(5/7/02) Today, Sam Dixon races in a quad at noon with lads from Peterborough and Bedford (flying the flag for the East) against 'seeded' opposition from Germany - should be a cracker of a race as the boys are going well, and Pete Gostling racing Leander is on in the same event late in the day.
(3/7/02) First ever Sudbury crew at Henley! Last year Peter Gostling became the first Sudbury member to compete for Sudbury at Henley in a composite with Leander and now this year Adian Dunn and Sam Hogsbjerg appear in The Goblets in the first full Sudbury crew.
