SRC REGATTA
EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN
These
notes detail what should happen in the event of a serious injury during the
regatta. They have been copied to all competing clubs, all SRC people running
the regatta, and all umpires.
Race control is the focal point, and is
situated on Friar’s meadow opposite the finish. All accidents and injuries
should be reported here as soon as possible, either in person or via an umpire,
all of whom have radio contact with Race Control. Race Control will then liase
and co-ordinate all the umpires, first-aid, and Emergency services as
necessary.
Access
for ambulances is from the far (town) side of the meadow, the same access as
for competitors, and therefore it is imperative
that this access is kept clear at all times. The nearest accident and emergency
hospital department is at the West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St. Edmunds, ~14
miles away.
Competitors
who find themselves in the river should make for the Suffolk (meadow, bowside) bank, as the Essex bank is inaccessible.
Anyone
requiring medical assistance should summon the nearest umpire, who can call
Race Control who will alert the qualified first-aid presence (St. John
Ambulance). There will also be a doctor on site all day. For minor conditions
such as cuts and sunburn, the first aid tent will be behind the race control
tent on the meadow.
Race
control will have mobile telephones which will be available in the event of any
incident.
If
an A&E emergency ambulance needs to be called, the address is use is EDGWORTH
ROAD, SUDBURY, CO10 2TG and they should be told to go to the very end of
this road and turn left to gain access
to the meadow. Do not use Friar’s meadow as an address as it does not show up
on the 999 ambulance dispatch system as an address.
Note:
it is important to specify this to avoid an ambulance inadvertantly going to
the rowing club.
The
grid reference of Friar’s meadow is TL874410.
